Okay, so last night I was literally uploading this episode for distro, when all of a sudden my network connection craps out. I fiddled around with everything for ten minutes or so without success, so I figured the problem was on the ISP's end and went to sleep in frustration (it was about four in the morning at this point). If it wasn't for this unfortunate incident this would've been out hours ago.

Anyway, in this episode: Plothax and battleships. Latter pictured. It's pretty huge.

A rather amusing episode, I say. Also, I'd like to remind everyone a bit about my typesetting policy: I tend to leave some signs not typesetted in a few cases, such as a) a character says the exact thing present in the sign basically at the same time the sign is shown b) the meaning of the sign is completely obvious from the context. There is a case of the latter in this episode, in the form of ゆ. If you don't figure out its meaning on the first time you see it, I'm going to slap you over TCP/IP for being as thick as a brick.

Also, this episode took a bit longer than usual to get out since I had some internet connectivity problems that got solved yesterday. I wanted to get this done last night but I since I had worked outside the whole day before that I fell asleep when I went to take a little nap in the middle of working on the episode...

This episode was quite boring. Also, it would have been out earlier, but my capper was missing the .ts file for reasons unknown. Luckily ElitistFags came to rescue and I could get this done in an almost-under-24-hours timeframe.

Some notes about the episode:

• 03:10 - Me 262 V1: There was some confusion over the V1 - some said it was supposed to be "VT", but Minna says "veechi", which most likely means vee-ichi aka V1.
• 07:23 - Shirley says her weapon is "P-51", which is incorrect - it's actually a BAR M1918, a light machine gun. P-51, on the other hand, is an airplane. EDIT: A wise person pointed out that Shirley is talking about her Striker unit, not her LMG. It certainly makes sense that way, and I should've probably changed the word "weapon" on that line to "unit". Oh well.
• 22:09 - The original CR sub used "french fry" here. I changed it to fried potato because that's what they say in the audio and because France doesn't exist in the world of Strike Witches, it's called Gallia. Nice job on that one, CR.

Release: Strike Witches 2 - 04 (MQ)

This is an MQ release. It uses CR's video with edited subtitles. The reason I'm doing this is that because of some urgent business, I will be out of town from Thursday to Sunday and thus can't work out my intended release schedule for ep4. I will release a proper HQ version along with the 480p version on Sunday when I get back. It shouldn't take too long to get those done then since I have the script done already.

Also, it's kinda shame how CrunchyRoll clearly has a good source video to work with, but then they fuck it up by subpar encoding settings and forced 1.5Mbps bitrate for everything 720p. And then they even dare to tout their video as THE BEST, though I guess that's just the usual advertising for you. CR, if you want to get me to pay for your services at some point, you have to beat the illegal alternatives, you know? Though along with that you should also start using the Fabulous .ass Player in order to get your subtitles at least close to the level of what can be achieved with .ass and VSFilter/libass.

As promised, here are the 480p versions of 01-03. And from now on, I'll simply have the 720p and 480p version listed in the same post since there won't be such a delay between the two versions.

I love catching up. My original 24 hours after airing release plan (when counting from Tokyo MX airing aka the one I use) almost got fulfilled for ep3 too. Next week I should be able to keep it up because I don't have any other episodes slowing me down.

Regarding the v2: I wasn't completely satisfied with the encode quality for ep1, so I re-encoded it. Now it looks better and is smaller in size to boot. I also changed a few other things for the v2, so go download it and replace the old version with this one.

I'll try to get the 480p versions out before Sunday. Starting next week I'll try to get them done and released in under 24 hours after the 720p release.

Revised plans regarding SW2

So it looks like no-one will pick SW2 for simulcast after all. Due to this, I'm going to do it as a joint project with StrikeS.

Don't expect us to release ep1 very fast though since I'm in GermanyKarlsland until the 13th.

After that we aim to deliver subs in a speedy manner from ep2 to the end of the season and I'll do my damned best to slavedrive people into achieving that (hopefully the StrikeS staff won't mind too much, since they want to get it done on a fast schedule as well).
